Social Practices & Sustainable Consumption (SPSC)

Addressing today's sustainability challenges requires more than changing individual behaviours or adopting new technologies—it calls for systemic change informed by research, policy, and practice.

The Impact Network was established to bring together RMIT's interdisciplinary expertise in social practice theory and strengthen its contribution to policy and societal change.

The network was launched at the final 2025 PICSIs workshop, bringing together researchers from the Centre for Urban Research and across RMIT to explore how research can better inform public policy and real-world decision-making.

Established by RMIT's Enabling Impact Platforms in 2024, the PICSIs initiative supports researchers in translating their work into government submissions, parliamentary inquiries, and public consultations. Through workshops and practical training, the program equips researchers with the skills and tools needed to communicate evidence effectively and maximise the impact of their research.

Building on this foundation, the SPSC Impact Network creates a collaborative platform for advancing research translation, policy development, and practice-based approaches to sustainability. By fostering collaboration across disciplines and sectors, the network aims to accelerate collective action and support more equitable, resilient, and sustainable futures.
