Food Cultures and Practices Enabling Impact Network

How can we reshape food systems for a more sustainable, equitable future?

The Food Cultures and Practices Enabling Impact Network is an interdisciplinary nexus at RMIT, uniting food researchers and industry partners in social policy, sustainability, health, and manufacturing.

The purpose of this network is to foster interdisciplinary collaborations between RMIT researchers and their industry partners, advancing conversations about everyday food practices, the cultures that shape them, and their societal impact.

Key areas of focus include:

  1. Enhancing RMIT’s capacity to engage with and generate large collaborative funding of food-related grants; and

  2. Creating societal impact through the use of innovative methods such as food (as) pedagogy and engagement with industry partners through roundtables, submission writing, and other approaches.

Led by Dr. Natalie Jovanovski and myself, Dr. Bhavna Middha, and backed by RMIT University's interdisciplinary expertise, this new network is setting the table for real-world change—with three "Big Bite" priority areas.

  • Food Waste – How can we halve food waste by 2030?

  • Food Access & Affordability – How can we ensure fair and sustainable food access for all?

  • Ultra-Processed Foods – How do we bridge the gap between competing perspectives and drive action?

The following themes reflect areas of expertise across the network
